Stretching

Stretching can be performed in a variety of different ways including passive stretching, active stretching, tense and relax or reciprocal inhibition. Different stretching techniques affect muscles and tendons through an assortment of mechanisms. Some of the benefits of stretching are:

Increases the bodie's flexibility. Stimulates blood flow. Increases joint range of motion.  Breaks up tissue adhesions and reduces adhesion formation. Increases the resting length of a muscle. Can aid in the alignment of new scar tissue after an injury. Reduces muscle spasm. Can reduce next day soreness caused by trigger point therapy or myofascial techniques.
